This section of our website contains a selection of training materials and policy documents for conferences and websites organised/maintained by NomadIT.
Our updated panel explorer allows video embedding and commenting directly within the panel page, giving panels wider options as to how to deliver their presentations. This guide aims to help conference convenors or panel convenors/panelists decide which formats (asynchronous, synchronous and mixed) to propose/adopt for their conference/panel.
The guide to pre-recording presentations makes various suggestions regarding approach and possible software options - with links to some excellent online tutorials - and also details the formats that can be uploaded into Shindig.
It's important for conferences to have policies in place and visible/available across a variety of issues, such as panel recordings, harassment and accessibility. This section of the site has pages with policies and guidelines.
We've used the Shindig platform to deliver many events: DSA2020, EASA2020, RAI2020, Anthropology and Technology, Praxis2020, Human Biology Association conference 2021, Society for Pyschological Anthropology (SPA) conference 2021 and other webinars. View our visual guide to get acquainted with the software.this section gives screen shots and instructions/hints.
N.B. You cannot use the mobile app to administer a Shindig/panel.
This section is aimed specifically at panel convenors taking the admin role and conference volunteers assisting them. Browse the annotated screenshots ahead of any scheduled training sessions.
Internet speed needed for Shindig
Shindig advises that participants need a strong standard internet connection (1-1.5 Mbps upload and download speeds), although those on speeds half that seem to manage fine. You can test your speed using testmy.net (click on the combined test option). More technically-minded users may wish to check they are using the best wifi channel on their router (if at home).
We will continue expanding the information available here throughout 2022.
