Radish Radio is inviting you to build a human-to-human communications infrastructure through radio. The goal? Take back the means of communication away from fascist billionaires & foster connection, courage and action in our social movements.
Long Abstract
As the world's governments keep failing to fulfill people's basic needs in a global capitalist system in crisis, thousands of people are building strong and radical social movements as a response to demand fairer living conditions for all - present and future. From grassroots organizing to global solidarity, people are coming together to challenge the status quo.
Often, these movements will face a strong media backlash, mostly due to the fact that (social) media outlets are owned by billionaires whose interests they directly challenge. This backlash can be debilitating, silencing voices and stifling dissent, but it can also galvanize movements and inspire collective action.
What if we took back the means of communication? What would a collectively owned social media platform look like? How could we design a new communications infrastructure that prioritizes connection, fosters social change, and empowers collective action?
This workshop is a vital and timely space where participants are asked to collaborate in designing a new communications infrastructure that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people. We will uncover and reimagine innovative uses of radio and long-form audio to bridge gaps in communication and deepen connections within and across social movements.
Through interactive activities and group discussions, participants will join forces to design a communications infrastructure that is more inclusive, empowering, and responsive to the needs of social movements. The workshop will culminate in an exploration of new ideas and plans for a communications infrastructure that is more responsive to the needs of social movements. Participants will be encouraged to take the next steps in implementing these ideas with Radish Radio's support and connect with a network of like-minded individuals and organizations committed to making radio a relevant medium for the revolution.
