Digital technologies are reshaping environmental activism. This brown-bag lunch workshop moves beyond risks vs potentials to explore how grassroots communities are repurposing digital tools to build counter-narratives around care in socio-ecological conflicts.

Long Abstract

How are grassroots movements using digital tools to construct counter-narratives around care in socio-ecological conflicts? This lunchtime workshop aims to bring researchers and activists together to reflect how digitalisation is being reinterpreted and used as a vehicle to put life and care at the center.

Platforms for countermapping, storytelling, and communitcation are becoming important sites where counter narratives about land, more-than-human worlds, conservation, climate and life-centered systems are produced and circulated.

This workshop focuses on the ways grassroots collectives are reintrerpreting and repurposing digital tools to challenge dominant narratives that sustain socio-ecological conflicts. By ellaborating on tangible experiences, documenting knwoledges, and sharing stories that are marginalised within mainstream media, this workshop aims to collectively reflect on how digital practices contribute to narrative struggles and what possibilities they offer for more plural socio-ecological futures, while navigating their trade-offs.
