We will reflect about queer ecology, trans identities, and the perspectives of being a queer researcher in academia. Focusing on how diversity enhances the resilience of ecosystems and socio-ecological systems, along with strategies for thriving embodied divergency. For queer people and allies.

Long Abstract

This workshop invites researchers to engage in critical dialogues at the intersection of queer ecology, trans identities, and the experiences of queer researchers in academia. As political ecology evolves, it is essential to make visible diverse perspectives that challenge dominant narratives and expand our comprehension of resilience within ecosystems and socio-ecological systems.

To start we will delve into the tenets of queer ecology, emphasizing the fluidity of identity and the non-binary nature of ecological interrelations. Then the following questions will guide the discussion:

- How do trans identities enrich our understanding of environmental justice, social equity?

- How diversity—encompassing both human and more-than-human identities—bolsters the resilience of ecological systems?

- What are the connections between decolonial discourse and questioning heteronormative epistemologies?

Throughout facilitated discussions and break-out group sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences, insights and strategies as queer researchers and allies. This collaborative engagement will prompt reflections on the significance of diversity in academic discourse and its implications for the sustainability of eco-social systems.

The workshop aims to contribute redefining narratives in environmental research, strengthen underrepresented voices, challenge heteronormative epistemologies about nature and ecology, and highlight the importance of diversity in cultivating resilient socio-ecological frameworks.

For queer people and allies.
