Short Abstract:

Psychological anthropology - given its focus on relationships between individuals and their social, political and economic settings (Levine 2010) - is well-positioned to explore the many problems in our modern world. Yet, entrenched professional habits often inhibit effective communication within and beyond the academy (Myers et al. 2016). The goal of this workshop is to equip psychological anthropologists to share their research with non-academic audiences. Specifically, we address: What disciplinary and institutional habits—including methods, theories, writing styles, and requirements for promotion—keep us from reaching out and effectively engaging non-academic audiences? How do we bring together content, methods, and approaches that speak across disciplines and engage non-academic audiences? What steps can we take to translate our research into policy and practice?
