Description

How is plastic waste impacting coastal communities and natural environments? Come and discover how plastic waste moves through rivers and along coasts, travels long distances, tangles in fishing nets, accumulates on beaches, and finds its way into humans and animals.

This exhibition of co-designed artwork, photographs and infographics from Vietnamese coastal communities shares the stories of fishers and aquaculture farmers, showing how they deal with plastic waste every day and how it affects their livelihoods and community health. Plastic pollution is not only a problem in Vietnam but one with spillover effects elsewhere. See how plastics move through our oceans and within the products and seafood that travel from place to place. Waste generated in one part of the world can contribute to environmental and health challenges in another, just as plastics used here may eventually reach distant shores.

At our public short talk, you will learn how addressing this global challenge requires collective effort, inspired by the communities that experience its impacts and actively work to reduce plastic pollution. Come and play board games designed by youth in Vietnam to raise awareness and inspire action, and discover how research can take place beyond laboratories and classrooms.
