Short Abstract

Metascience is exploding into the mainstream. Its simple premise - to turn the data, methods, and tools of science back towards analyzing and improving the scientific system itself - is being increasingly embraced. This session will actively engage the audience to shape the Metascience Alliance.

Long Abstract

Science as a social system is reluctant to change. There is vast unexplored space in how science could be conducted — space that might unlock incremental to orders-of-magnitude improvements in the pace of discovery. Metascience assesses the current state of inefficiencies, imagines new designs and practices, conducts trials of potential solutions, and starts and scales alternatives to the social systems of science. But metascience needs venues to cultivate divergent ideas, create ties across disciplinary and sector silos, foster career pathways for new metascientists, and form and launch research and entrepreneurial collaborations.

That’s where the Metascience Alliance comes in.

We’re building a global, cross-sector community of individuals and organizations committed to improving the research system through coordination, experimentation, and sustained collaboration. The Metascience Alliance is a distributed network connecting researchers, funders, service providers, publishers, policymakers, and other stakeholders across silos. Our purpose is to create the connections needed to support experimentation, shared learning, and collective progress.

Our mission: Build community, develop workforce, and connect diverse groups to improve research and innovation globally.

This session will engage the audience to participate in shaping the Metascience Alliance. Structured breakout sessions will occur framed around the area of activities and aims of the Metascience Alliance. This session will help set the stage to accelerate the impact and reach of the growing network of individuals and organizations engaged in metascience.
