Short Abstract

Interdisciplinary research advances metascience by integrating diverse methodologies, while metascience enhances interdisciplinary collaboration by fostering improved practices and networks. This symposium gathers early career researchers to explore this dynamic relationship in advancing research.

Description

Interdisciplinary research plays a pivotal role in advancing metascience, while metascience provides essential tools and frameworks to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. This 90-minute symposium explores how the dynamic relationship between metascience and interdisciplinary research fosters improved research practices and networks. Four early career researchers (ECRs) from diverse disciplines share their experiences and insights, discussing how these fields mutually reinforce one another to drive scientific progress.

The symposium features four short presentations, each reflecting on the speakers’ experience as an interdisciplinary researcher and the broader impact of their work:

- Anna Leung (psycholinguist and language teacher) bridges education and psychology theories in reading research to enhance knowledge dissemination and collaboration.

- Elen Le Foll (corpus linguist and language teaching expert) focuses on promoting open science and open education practices in the humanities.

- Shawn Hemelstrand (psychologist and methodologist) explores how statistics education and scientific communication enhance the reliability and accessibility of research findings.

- Daniel Kristanto (engineer turned neuroscientist) integrates data science and metascience to develop frameworks that enable cross-disciplinary learning, fostering the transfer of impactful methods and insights across fields.

Following the presentations, a 45-minute moderated panel discussion will provide a platform for exploring how ECRs can navigate the challenges of interdisciplinary research. The discussion focuses on the shared goals of metascience and interdisciplinary research, fostering dialogue on overcoming barriers, building collaborative networks, and driving meaningful progress in science. This symposium emphasises how the synergy between metascience and interdisciplinary collaboration inspires innovation and supports ECRs in their scientific growth.
