Long Abstract:
This presentation presents the results of a theoretical research in applied political philosophy grounded in the capabilities approach. It aims to inform about the ethical conditions for the realization of the right to education for students with disabilities (SWDs), to expand the informational basis for evaluation, and to assess the capacity of institutions to effectively realize rights. The ex datis approach relies on internationally-sourced data of various types including sociological, statistical, economic, and political, providing an overview of the state of inequalities in the realization of the right to education for SWDs, combined with diachronic and historical data on inequalities. These data facilitate a contextualized understanding to examine the inequalities in the realization of the right to education for SWDs in Quebec and South Africa. From the standpoint of political philosophy, these data are interrogated to establish a set of indicators to identify injustices and to enrich the judgment basis required by the capabilities approach.
