Discussing education, health, and empowerment, it highlights overcoming deprivations through collaborative innovation, aiming at community well-being and resilience amidst global challenges

Long Abstract:

This roundtable, titled "'Capability' conversation with practitioners," seeks to build upon and broaden the discussions initiated in the 2019 Connecting Capabilities pre-conference and further developed in the 2021 Global Dialogue. This session is dedicated to exploring the innovative and collaborative efforts of practitioners who have been instrumental in addressing both overt and nuanced forms of capability deprivation. The focus will be on areas critical to community well-being, including education, health, disability, political participation, and overall well-being, through the lens of capability enhancement.

The objective of this roundtable is to spotlight recent collaborative efforts and practitioner-led initiatives that have made significant strides in enhancing the capabilities of local communities. We will feature insights from the Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation, the Naandi Foundation, and JEEViKA—organizations that have each brought unique approaches to empowering communities, from safeguarding children's rights and improving menstrual health outcomes to eradicating poverty. This dialogue aims to delve into how these organizations have effectively navigated challenges to bolster community capabilities in the face of adversity.

The critical discussions of the roundtable, "Enhancing Capabilities Through Collaboration: A Dialogue with Practitioners," will centre on the transformative efforts of three distinguished organizations in addressing critical issues related to community well-being and capability enhancement. The Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation will share its impactful strategies for rescuing children from exploitative circumstances and lobbying for policy reforms aimed at creating a safer and more nurturing environment for child development. The Naandi Foundation will discuss its pioneering research and implementation of menstrual health interventions within sports programs, highlighting the dual goals of improving menstrual health outcomes and advancing gender equality. Meanwhile, JEEViKA will present its holistic approach to the economic and social empowerment of Bihar's rural poor, emphasizing the role of community mobilization, skill development, and livelihood enhancement in fostering sustainable growth and reducing poverty.

This roundtable will serve as a vibrant platform for exchanging ideas, strategies, and insights on overcoming capability deprivation and fostering community empowerment. It will discuss the practical applications of the Capability Approach (CA) in various contexts, sharing pioneering practices and exploring avenues for future collaboration.
