Short Abstract

Managing crises can be improved based on citizen science based decision ready information. In this workshop, you will learn how to use a technological ecosystem designed to manage trusted citizen generated data assets. These immutable assets allow for proving liability in decision making.

Description

While Citizen Generated Data (CGD) is gaining more respect in the community, as more standardized protocols are applied, the acceptance in decision making is still limited. The reason is that CGD cannot be trusted without rigorous quality controls and a technical solution that ensures Integrity, Provenance and Trust (IPT) of the final result.

The emerging European Data Spaces (such as the Green Deal Data Space) are inclusive ecosystems for managing data that can be used to establish liability in decision making. In order to incorporate CGD at the same level of governmental or private sector recognized data, there is a need that citizen science adhere with particular principles and procedures for the disaster and crises management.

In this workshop we will demonstrate a technological approach designed in CitiObs, and in collaboration with AD4GD, that complies with these EC requirements for the European Data Spaces. The demonstrated solution does not force you in complex and exclusive networks guarded by components promoted by associations of private organizations such as the IDSA or GAIA-X.

The participants in the workshop will use an immutable catalog of CGD based on distributed ledgers (a.k.a. blockchain) proving the CGD assets integrity. Use cases involving download from trusted parties, using CGD in trusted processes and GDPR compliant submission of personal information to a process where the citizen retains its data sovereignty.

Attendance does not require any previous knowledge of the technologies involved. You will be tasked and guided in the use of APIs and graphical user interfaces.
