Short Abstract
This participatory making and doing session explores how cooperative time emerges through the entanglement of hands and threads. Through recursive threading, participants explore how shared threading reveals diffractive times of cause and condition in the present at hand.
Description
Cooperative Thread of Threads is a participatory making and doing session that explores how cooperation emerges through the entanglement of hands and threads. Using only thread as material, participants engage in a collective threading process where relations take shape through delicate handwork and concentrated attention.
Here, thread is not merely a material but a collaborator that reveals itself in its own way. Each strand traces a moment of shared making through which people and materials continuously adjust to one another. Yet every thread also becomes part of other parts, a recursive threading in which the act of making folds back on itself, generating new layers of cause, condition, and time.
Cooperative Thread of Threads responds to the conference theme of more-than-now by enacting futures as processes already woven through the present. It invites participants to sense how collective life is continually rethreaded, hand in hand, across temporal layers of material relation. Through this recursive threading, cooperation becomes both the method and the medium for imagining and materializing resilient futures.
STS researchers who may have lost their sense of touch in thinking too abstractly are warmly invited to take part in this session, which offers a tactile, speculative, and diffractive space for exploring how making and doing can become a method of inquiry into cooperation, material entanglement, and the temporal textures of knowledge.
