Long Abstract:

This Laboratory proposes to explore critical strategies for re-imagining the narratives of ethnographic museums and their role in the present from the perspective of the dialogue between anthropology and contemporary art. It will take place at the Ethnological Museum of Barcelona, Montcada, with its starting point being the artistic and curatorial research that the proponents have been carrying out at this museum since 2023. This research will culminate in an artistic intervention in the Latin American archaeology exhibit, displayed during the period of this proposal. Discussions on provenance, replication/falsification and activation of the archive will be the conceptual trigger for the Laboratory, which will be developed in three moments. Firstly, the research/intervention will be presented, accompanied by a drift through the museum based on questions about the uses of the past and the representation of present-day communities. Secondly, a participatory dynamic will be generated, focused on the construction of narratives about the objects through proposals for interventions in the exhibit room, such as on the labels, the arrangement of objects and their relationship with the environment. Finally, in the third moment, reflections will be shared with various invited interlocutors. Just as the intervention in the museum is based on the artist's long-standing dialogue with the artisan community of La Pila in Ecuador, the Laboratory will promote a dialogue between different spaces of enunciation, involving academics, artisans, and members of the Latin American migrant community.
