Paper long abstract
This presentation aims to examine the historical development and current situation of Japanese language education in Poland, drawing on interviews with people, fifteen years of leadership in the Polish Association of Japanese Language Teachers, and the lessons learned through my own management of a language school. It seeks to identify key factors behind this development and to outline future challenges and prospects.
Japanese studies remain highly popular in Poland, with the University of Warsaw reporting an applicant-to-place ratio exceeding 30:1, the highest nationwide in 2006 and consistently maintained in recent years. Polish recipients of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship also rank among the highest from non-kanji regions, reaching a global peak in 2014 alongside China.
The presentation consists of three parts. First, it traces the historical formation of Japanese language education, from its beginnings at the Oriental Institute to the establishment and expansion of Japanese studies programs across major universities, while considering the influence of historical events on Polish interest in Japan. Second, it analyzes the current situation, including institutions, learner numbers, JLPT administration, and professional activities. Third, it proposes future directions, emphasizing the role of the Polish Association of Japanese Language Teachers and strategies for sustainable development.
| Abstract in Japanese (if needed): | ポーランドに根づく日本語教育 ～その歩みと広がり～ 坂本龍太朗（ワルシャワ日本語学校） 本発表は、発表者による関係者への聞き取り取材、15年間に渡るポーランド日本語教師会運営、そしてポーランドでの日本語学校経営などを通して見えてきたポーランドにおける日本語教育の歴史的展開と現状を整理し、その発展要因を明らかにするとともに、今後の課題と展望を提示することを目的とする。 ポーランドでは日本学が大学の主要専攻として高い人気を維持しており、ワルシャワ大学日本学科は2006年に30.25倍を記録し、これは国内全ての大学の学科の中で最高倍率となった。近年も同大学では約30倍前後で推移している。また、文部科学省国費外国人留学生におけるポーランド出身者は非漢字圏で常に上位にあり、2014年度には中国と並び世界最多となった。本発表は、こうした発展の背景を分析し、ポーランド特有の歴史的・社会的要因を示すとともに、欧州における日本語教育の発展への示唆を得ることを志向する。 発表は三つの主題で構成される。第一に、ポーランドにおける日本語教育の歴史的形成過程を検討する。東洋学院における日本研究の開始から、コタンスキ教授の尽力によるワルシャワ大学日本学科設置、その後クラクフ、ポズナニ、トルン、グダニスクなど主要大学への日本学科設置に至る過程を整理する。また、日露戦争、ポーランド・シベリア孤児救済、杉原千畝の活動など歴史的事象が対日関心に与えた影響を考察する。 第二に、ポーランドにおける日本語教育の現況を分析する。国内の教育機関数や学習者数、年2回実施される日本語能力試験（JLPT）の運営状況、教師会による弁論大会や研修活動などを紹介する。 第三に、今後の課題と展望として、歴史的背景と現状分析に基づき、ポーランド日本語教師会が果たすべき役割と教育の持続的発展の方策を提言する。 （ここまでで738字） |
