Short Abstract:
This interactive panel explores resilience in resource-dependent communities beyond crisis narratives. A fireside chat invites multimedia discussions on human-ecological interdependence, followed by a sandbox session to foster a network for transformative, decolonial research collaborations.
Long Abstract:
Communities worldwide are often framed as navigating “crises” - from ecological degradation to economic challenges. Yet, resource-dependent communities have long managed intersecting issues, showing resilience through practices that emphasise human-ecological interdependence and co-becoming. This panel challenges conventional crisis narratives by exploring resilience and wellbeing as ongoing processes shaped by the intertwined lives of humans and non-humans.
This panel will have two sessions:
Session 1 (Fire-side chat): This session invites participants to showcase their projects in an open forum using multimedia—photos, videos, maps, and other visuals—that highlight varying processes of resilience and wellbeing in resource-dependent communities. We particularly welcome contributions with pluralist, interdisciplinary approaches that center epistemic justice and diverse views on wellbeing. This dialogue aims to deepen understanding of the complex dynamics that bind humans and ecosystems, reflecting their co-creation and mutual adaptation.
Session 2 (Sandbox): Aligned with the conference theme "Navigating Crisis", this session seeks to foster connections among researchers to build a multidisciplinary network of researchers committed to exploring resilience and co-becoming using transformative, decolonial approaches. Using creative and innovative thinking techniques, we will identify priority areas for research and lay the foundation for the development of joint research project proposals. The resulting network will aim to include a mix of researchers at all levels- professors, early and mid-career researchers, doctoral students -to build research capacity and enable sustained collaboration. We will also work with local communities to ensure prioritising research that matters.
We invite participants from diverse disciplines to join us for these interactive, forward-looking panel sessions.
