Abstract

This pre-conference workshop aims to support early-career scholars from Central Asia and the broader Eurasian region in navigating international funding opportunities and developing competitive research proposals. Despite the growing global interest in Eurasian studies, many talented researchers from the region face structural barriers when applying for major research grants and establishing international collaborations.

The workshop will introduce participants to key funding landscapes in Europe, the United States, Japan, and China, highlighting major funding agencies, fellowship schemes, and institutional opportunities relevant to scholars working on Eurasia. Participants will gain practical insights into how funding systems operate, how to identify appropriate calls, and how to develop research ideas into successful proposals.

In addition to discussing potential funding agencies and grant opportunities, the workshop will focus on key strategies for success, including building international networks, developing interdisciplinary collaborations, framing research questions for global audiences, and navigating institutional expectations in different academic contexts.

A central goal of the workshop is to encourage scholars from Eurasia to apply for research funding with confidence and to build sustainable academic partnerships across regions and disciplines. By bringing together researchers, experienced grant holders, and potential collaborators, the workshop will create a supportive space for discussing funding strategies, sharing experiences, and developing future collaborative projects.
