Abstract

THE WORKSHOP IS CANCELED.

Media in Central Eurasia continue to play a key role in shaping public opinion, transmitting cultural norms, and participating in political and social processes. With digitalization, increased control over information and growing polarization, both traditional and new media are becoming not only sources of information, but also arenas for struggles over the interpretation of events, identity and power.

The seminar focuses on discussing contemporary media practices in the Central Eurasia region, including Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and other neighboring countries. Participants will be able to present research, projects and observations related to media in a variety of contexts, from educational and environmental initiatives to political mobilization, the work of independent journalists and everyday media consumption.

Workshop topics include:

-The role of media in shaping civic participation and the public agenda;

- local and transnational media landscapes;

- the use of social media and digital platforms in the face of restrictions and censorship;

- linguistic and cultural diversity in media space;

- the interaction of media with state and international institutions.

The workshop takes an interdisciplinary approach and is open to researchers, practitioners, journalists and representatives of NGOs working at the intersection of media, culture, education and social change. It will focus on the local context, as well as sustainable and innovative approaches to content creation and distribution, especially in the context of political instability and information challenges.

The workshop discussion will allow participants to share experiences, identify common trends and differences, and suggest new research directions in studying the role of media in the region. The outcomes of the workshop can serve as a basis for further cooperation and the development of practical solutions to support sustainable and independent media environments in Central Eurasia.
