Format:
Networking Conversations
Location:
Zoom (link will be emailed to participants on Oct 15)
Sessions:
Saturday 17 October, -
Time zone: America/New_York

Long Abstract:

This session will discuss challenges and opportunities for digital humanities in Central Eurasian studies, especially related to cultural heritage preservation, curation, analysis, and outreach. Items for discussion include: What digital humanities initiatives already exist in this field? Where are they based? What are good models for this work? What are failed models or difficulties? What digital projects or tools does Central Eurasian studies need, but not have? How can we join forces to design, create, and promote effective and integrated digital humanities work, internationally and regionally, within and outside of academia?

The facilitator (who is not an expert in this area) will briefly share collected information on past and ongoing digital humanities projects related to Central Eurasian cultural heritage. Beyond this brief overview, the session will provide structured space for participants to discuss their own experience and interest in the subject, and their ideas and suggestions for further directions. Further directions may include new projects or initiatives, new ways to integrate or develop existing projects, or new ideas to address persistent challenges. The goal of this session is to assess the state of digital humanities in Central Eurasian studies, to identify a few next steps for further development, and to compile a network of people interested in future discussions and collaborations.
