Although there are signs of intensifying regional and pan-African networks among knowledge workers in Africa, there are also continuing barriers, and even a sense of ‘Afro-phobia’ among Africans engaging in international collaboration. Many African scholars still have a preference for nurturing linkages with European and North American, and recently also Asian colleagues and conferences, and they neglect potential relationships nearby, in Africa itself.
