Long Abstract:

The annual ANSA Visual Ethnography Competition is an opportunity for anthropology students in Australia to creatively reflect on their practice as anthropologists. The winning entries are rewarded with a cash prize, industry clout, and a slot showcasing their work at the AAS conference. In 2021 we challenged students to reflect visually on what it means to be both home and/or away… and no we're not talking about the television drama show! This year we will also be showing the winners from the COVID interrupted 2020 competition, on the potentiality of creative and visual practice in the production of anthropological knowledge.
