Interests: Wesam Wekhyan is a PhD researcher at the University of Bath, focusing on decoloniality, indigeneity, feminist resistance, and alternative knowledge production in the SWANA region. Her research explores Bedouin epistemologies and storytelling as decolonial praxis, examining how Bedouin women in Jordan navigate and challenge colonial, patriarchal, and neoliberal structures. Through participatory, reflexive, and arts-based methodologies, she engages with oral histories, digital activism, and embodied feminist methods to foreground indigenous knowledge and resistance. Wesam’s work contributes to decolonial feminist scholarship, digital indigeneity, and intergenerational identity negotiations, centering Bedouin women’s lived experiences as sites of knowledge production and political agency.
Regional Focus: Jordan and the broader SWANA region (Southwest Asia and North Africa), with a specific emphasis on Bedouin communities in Al-Faysalieh, Madaba, Jordan. My work also engages with transnational indigenous and decolonial feminist perspectives that connect Jordan’s Bedouin communities to global discussions on coloniality, indigeneity, and alternative knowledge production.
