VAD2024 Registration and fees

Standard registration is now open

All participants - panel convenors, authors, chairs, discussants, organisers, keynotes, plenary speakers, guests, volunteers, committee members and those without any specific role - must register in advance of the event, whether attending in Bayreuth face-to-face (f2f) or online.

Registration is by online form only and does not require instant payment: your registration will be manually processed and within a few days you will be emailed an invoice with payment information. Invoices should be settled within 15 days by card online or by bank transfer.

The deadline for registration for online participation is 2 weeks before the conference start: thereafter it will not be possible to register for online attendance.

Please note that accommodation is not included with the registration fee. You can have a look to our accommodation infromation page, we advise you organise this in good time as the conference is happening during peak tourist season.

Concession rates

*Concession rate applies to the following low-income categories: students, unemployed, or scholars unable to afford the regular rate (e.g. scholars based in Low-Income-Countries, scholars on short research contracts (less than 1 year)).

Please be aware that the concession rate is highly subsidized to afford participation to those who would otherwise be unable to join.

Membership rates

Please notice that you can only request the discounted membership fee if your application has been officially approved by the VAD board and VAD has received your first annual membership fee.

If interested in joining Vereinigung für Afrikawissenschaften in Deutschland (VAD) please view their membership page.

What are you paying for?

VAD2024 conference participation cost covers hybrid participation options, lunch, tea and coffee breaks and 3 days of panels and events organised by the University of Bayreuth and VAD.

VAD2024 will be the second fully hybrid VAD conference in order to facilitate scholarly access in these pandemic times of numerous travel restrictions. The aim is to provide a rich conference experience for all, with access to every panel and plenary. However the labour involved in ensuring full participation for both f2f and virtual delegates is approximately half as much again as organising a virtual or f2f only conference.

Cancellations

Registrations cancelled (notifying us by email) more than three weeks before the conference will be refunded, less 50€ (administrative fees).

Cancellations made within three weeks of the event will be ineligible for such a refund, due to costs already incurred. Refunds at that point will be discretionary.

Funding

DFG, the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) is supporting the international scholars accommodation and travel costs. Call for Funding is now closed.

We do recommend to look for additional funding as DFG can provide only limited funding and we are unable to offer additional support to cover conference fees or other expenses.
