Paper short abstract
AI reshapes global power by boosting corporate productivity, enhancing state military and diplomatic capabilities, and widening the gap between AI-literate and non-literate individuals. This paper analyzes these emerging economic, geopolitical, and social asymmetries.
Paper long abstract
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a foundational driver of global power, transforming economic competition, geopolitical strategy, and social opportunity structures. This paper examines AI as a multifaceted power multiplier across three levels of analysis. First, it explores how AI strengthens corporate economic power by accelerating productivity, enabling new data-driven business models, optimizing global supply chains, and reinforcing market concentration among firms that control key algorithms, datasets, and compute resources. Second, it analyzes AI’s impact on states’ military and diplomatic power, including its role in autonomous systems, intelligence analysis, cyber operations, influence campaigns, and the negotiation leverage that comes from technological dominance and strategic dependencies in AI hardware and software ecosystems. Third, it investigates how AI literacy has become a new axis of social differentiation, empowering individuals who can effectively use or build AI tools while marginalizing those without such skills, thus reshaping labor markets, democratic participation, and access to knowledge.
By linking corporate, state, and individual-level dynamics, the paper argues that AI is not merely another technological innovation but a structural force re-configuring global hierarchies. It highlights emerging risks (such as power concentration, inequality, loss of sovereignty, and strategic instability) and outlines policy pathways to ensure that AI serves as a broadly distributed public good rather than a narrow amplifier of existing dominance.
