Paper long abstract

In Nigeria, the changes brought about by Independence were soon displaced by another event, the civil war. This paper examines how Nigerian literature emerged, and was impacted, within the matrixes of these events; how writers functioned in a time of change; it poses the problem of change as a fundamental challenge in African literary production.
