This panel will critically examine the state of affairs of African and non-African outlets for scientific publications, and access to sources. There will be special attention for publishers of books and journals based in Africa. And there will be a focus on the role of online publishing/visibility; open science / open access initiatives; and attention for dissemination strategies, including Wikipedia and Wikidata. Papers dealing with experiences of ‘smart teaching’ and ‘smart learning’ in Africa are also invited, i.e. using digital technology in higher education and learning in general.
