Short Abstract:

In this workshop seminar, Associate Professor Lisa Wynn (Macquarie University anthropology and President Emerita, Australian Anthropological Society) will talk about academic publishing strategies gleaned from her own publishing experiences and those of her colleagues, and encourage postgraduate students to think critically about their own writing practices.

Long Abstract:

Associate Professor Lisa Wynn, will share secret tips and tricks to push HDR students to publish original research.

Publishing is paramount for HDRs and career academics to gain scholarships and funding, get jobs, establish credentials as experts in anthropology, and qualify as an active researchers. This workshop will illuminate the daunting world of academic publishing for the uninitiated. How to spot a bogus journal from a vanity press? How to thwart predatory publishers and publish respectably? How often to publish, what, and where?

HDR students are invited to pop along to this workshop for some useful, free resources that will help students get a handle on how to publish.

Lisa, who publishes as L. L. Wynn, is President Emerita of AAS, incoming editor of American Ethnologist, and firm editorial board member of two public health journals, Contraception and Maternal Child Health. Lisa is based at Macquarie University and has published monographs, edited books, journal articles, book chapters, blog posts and encyclopaedia entries. Additionally, Lisa has reviewed for dozens of journals and academic presses, so sees the world of academic publishing from all sides of the fence. Here, Lisa will share some tips and tricks to get HDR students over the line.

Organised by ANSA (Australian Network of Student Anthropologists http://www.ansa-aas.com/ ), our aim is to kick off the ANSA stream at AAS2021 and welcome HDR students into the often obtuse world of academic publishing and beyond.

Please do join us at the specified time, as this workshop will not be recorded
