Accommodation
Finding accommodation in Ottawa
Please note: CASCA/IUAES2017 does not offer any accommodation with registration, so delegates will need to book their accommodation themselves directly.
Lonely Planet starts their entry on Canada’s capital city by saying that “descriptions of Ottawa read like an appealing dating profile: dynamic, gregarious, bilingual, likes kids and long walks on the river.” However, after a long day with this delightful date, one needs a good night’s sleep. We strongly recommend booking your rooms well ahead, to make sure that you get an accommodation that is to your liking – there will be other large events taking place in Ottawa at the same time, so most accommodation facilities may get booked out long before May.
The address of the main conference venue is 120 University Private, Ottawa, ON K1N 6N5, Canada
University of Ottawa accommodation
University of Ottawa accommodation can ONLY be booked starting from May 2nd and ending May 8th. We know that international delegates would prefer to arrive earlier and/or leave later, but unfortunately these are the only dates available for accommodation on campus. If you need accommodation for earlier dates than May 2nd, you will need to stay elsewhere and relocate on May 2nd. We apologise for the inconvenience.
University of Ottawa is offering 255 student residencies on campus with special prices for CASCA/IUAES2017 delegates for the duration of the conference, when using the promotional code CASCAIUAES17 for booking. Please note that the promotional code only allows for attendees to book within the reserved dates of May 2nd until May 8th. If you need accommodation for earlier dates than May 2nd, you will need to stay elsewhere and relocate on May 2nd - we recommend looking at the offer from the Extended Stay Canada Ottawa (four paras below).
There remain many rooms available, so if the system tells you there are none available, you have keyed in the wrong dates - see above!!
The residences on offer are either “suite-style” (en-suite, air-conditioned units with two separate bedrooms with a double bed in each room or a twin, a washroom with shower, kitchenette equipped with fridge and microwave, table and chairs) or “traditional” (standard single and twin rooms furnished with one or two single beds, a desk and chair, and an armoire; these residences have separate men’s and women’s washrooms on each floor and are not air-conditioned). Please see a detailed description of each residence here (PDF).To see the location of the residences, please check the campus map page. The ensuite residence 90 University (90U) and traditional residences of Marchand (MRD) and Stanton (STN) are the closest to the conference venue (all three are at the address 90 University Private). Henderson (HNN) ensuite residence is located off Henderson Avenue and Templeton St (202 Henderson Avenue). If you scroll further out, you will see the Rideau (RDU) ensuite residence on the other side of campus off King Edward Avenue and Rideau St (290 Rideau Street).
You can book the accommodation directly online at the University of Ottawa accommodation website.
A hotel near the venue that is offering a special price to IUAES delegates until the end of March is Extended Stay Canada Ottawa - Downtown (address: 141 Cooper St, Ottawa, ON K2P 0E8, Canada).
To book, please call 1-613-236-7500 or toll free 1-800-563-5634 and mention CASCA/IUAES 2017 as the promotion code.
Other options for finding accommodation: the 'Google' solution
If you’d rather stay at a hotel or a hostel, we recommend using peer-reviewed travel advice or accommodation sites such as Tripadvisor, Lonely Planet, Booking.com
Needless to say, you can also simply google “accommodation near 120 University Private, Ottawa, ON K1N 6N5” and see what turns up.
Two cheap places near the campus are here and here.
If you are thinking of renting a place for the week, where you can do your own cooking and maybe share the costs with colleagues/family, look at the “Vacation rentals” section on Tripadvisor, search AirBnB, or the 'Homes and apartments' section in Booking.com and read the advice/reviews before making a booking.
For those who want to meet locals, yet keep their costs to an absolute minimum, we recommend looking at couch-surfing (always remember to read the reviews first!).
